The Skin & Its Function

...Skin is our natural barrier from the outside world. Being the largest organ of the body, it regulates many important functions of the body such as:

- Regulates body temperature
- Protects from bacteria and environmental toxins
- Manufactures and distributes oil
- Provides a secure environment for millions of nerves, blood vessels, hair follicles and glandular sebaceous structures
- Provides structural support to the body
- Provides the vital role of internal cleansing system
- Regulates the body's water retention

...Many factors affect the skin and its function. Some of the culprits of skin disorders would include, sun damage (UV radiation), diet, environment, cigarette smoking, hormones, medications & supplements, disease or illnesses, and poor hygiene.

Seasonal changes affect our skin as follows:

Winter:
skin keeps us warm by holding in fluid secretions (sebum/sweat). Skin is therefore naturally drier in the winter.

Summer:
skin continuously releases the same fluids in an attempt to keep us cool. Summer skin is therefore oilier during warmer summer months.

Aging:
...Cellular production slows down and the cells become thicker and more tightly packed together, therefore they do not hold moisture as well. Signs of aging can be avoided, improved or eliminated. With the appropriate skin evaluation by an experience skin care specialist, you can control or alter the natural aging of the skin and many skin disorders. With the use of the appropriate skin care products, skin care can be made simple and effective.

Two elements known to contribute to the regeneration of skin cells:

Disinfection – Hypochlorous acid contained in low pH acidic water contains intensive bactericidal (Anti-bacterial) properties.

Astriction – Low pH acidic water tightens the space between skin cuticles to allow the ‘barrier function’ of the skin to resume its original function, preventing evaporation of moisture and intrusion of foreign matter from environmental exposure. * Reported studies – Prevailing theory
